The Sardinia Foundation presents the exhibition “A trip to Sardinia” by Paolo Ventura
The project by Paolo Ventura, the artist who collaborates with the MARCOROSSI artecontemporanea, at the centre of “A trip to Sardinia – an outside perspective” from December the 18th until March the 31st at the Sardinia Foundation.
The exhibition “A trip to Sardinia – an outside perspective” by Paolo Ventura, curated by Marco Delogu for the Photography department and Maria Paola Dettori for the Visual Arts department, is scheduled in the tight calendar of activities supported by the Sardinia Foundation in the context of AR/S – Shared Art. The projects of the Foundation aim to promote not only exhibitions dedicated to the Sardinian art history but also contemporary art investments. The topic of the journey, already investigated by a symposium of artists and curators through many artistic disciplines is here analysed through photography and visual art starting from the Island suggestions.
The photography section curated by Marco Delogu from the Paolo Ventura’s exhibition
The Photography department curated by Marco Delogu will exhibit of an unpublished corpus of artworks born during the artist’s residency in Sardinia. Thanks to the collaboration with the Falconieri House, these artworks will create a dialogue with the shots made by August Sander and Vittorio Alinari made in the early ‘900. An osmosis process between the present and the past, made possible by the artistic path of Paolo Ventura shaped around a diachronic journey. In these works, time defines the succession of different passages and marks left on the territory are stripped of their context to evoke the De Chirico’s metaphysical architecture. This is a creative process – in the poetry through images – that mixtures photography, scenography, backgrounds and human elements.
Paolo Ventura portrays a very intimate, enigmatic and severe Sardina
On an island outside the “Grand Tour” which welcomed writers and artists who portrayed it in-depth, Paolo Ventura established himself out of time and leaves us with a very personal point of view, the result of a layer of images and marks. What is it left from Paolo Ventura’s first view? Says the curator, Marco Delogu: “Every year a photographer arrives without cheating on his identity, tries to think about what he experiences and what Sardinia has given back to him. Ventura finds himself inside elaborated perspectives, white skies, no folklore, time that has been cancelled. Nobody could ever date this work, but we know for sure we will spend a lot of time staring at the vision of his passage.
A catalogue and a documentary complete the project
The exhibition will be followed by a publication of a volume edited by Punctum Press which includes texts by the two curators Marco Delogu and Maria Paola Dettori and unpublished tales written by Paola Soriga and the Strega Prize from 2018, Helena Janeczek. Moreover, the project aims to produce a documentary film titled “An outside perspective”, directed by Peter Marcias, which will be presented at the Sardinia Foundation as a collateral event of the 2022 exhibition, thereafter the major international Cinema’s preview.
