Rune Guneriussen was born in Kongsberg, Norway in 1977 and studied at the Surrey Institute for Art and Design in England before returning to live and work in Norway.
Guneriussen interweaves nature and the human presence; lamps, books, telephones, chairs and, in his most recent cycle of works, his own light sculptures become installations immersed in pristine natural surroundings, the subject of his photographs, interacting with the landscape to create contrasts or, vice versa, fit perfectly into their natural surroundings. His works are site-specific, produced in complete solitude and reflection, surrounded by unusual, wild landscapes.

Guneriussen says that humans have an overly invasive approach to nature, and develops projects in which the artist’s work disappears after the photograph has been taken, restoring the environment to its natural state. His photographs taken using large plates on an optical bench ensure very high definition of every little detail in the image, becoming the final act in a complex creative process that begins with the choice of the location, creation of the installation, which may take several days, and lastly, the magical moment captured in the perfect light, often at dawn.
